A marine incinerator’s purpose is to dispose of all waste products generated inside ships during the incineration process. Due to the international laws prohibiting people at sea from disposing of their waste in the water, having a marine incinerator on board is a must, especially if your setup serves the needs of a large number of people.

Cruise and other passenger ships, for example, typically carry a large number of people on board and are one of many examples of where a marine incinerator would be critical. This massive amount of waste must be removed, and because it cannot be dumped into the sea, it is fed into a marine incinerator to be burned instead.

Waste oil, oily rags, glass and plastic waste are all examples of waste that can be burned inside a marine incinerator, with separate incinerators for plastic and glass.

Atlas Incinerators

Founded in 1974, the ATLAS Incinerators product line has been on the market, and over 9000 units have been installed worldwide in the marine and offshore industries, as well as for land applications such as power plants, hospitals, airports, and as transportable containerized incinerators for various purposes.

ATLAS Incinerators has state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Denmark and China, as well as a licensee manufacturer in Korea. The incinerators at all three facilities are built to the same high standards and quality that our customers expect when purchasing an Atlas. Furthermore, the incinerators are thoroughly tested before shipment to ensure that they operate smoothly from the start.

Types of  Atlas Incinerators Repairs

The type of refractory repair required for marine incinerators is determined by the extent of damage to the refractory lining.  Atlas Incinerators A/S, the original equipment manufacturer, distinguishes three types of repair:

  • Type 1 repair: For a damaged area of less than 4 cm3 and cracks measuring 3–5 mm.
  • Type 2 repair: For a damaged area of 4 – 100 cm3 and cracks ranging from 5 – 20 mm.
  • Type 3 repair: For damaged areas larger than 100 cm3 and cracks larger than 20 mm.

Given that the extent of damage is minimal and may not even be noticeable, the first two types of repairs may be easily performed by the ship crew without the assistance of an external vendor. Cleaning the damaged area and repatching it with materials such as air setting mortar or other ramming materials are part of the repair work for these two types.

The third type of repair necessitates the assistance of a specialist because the extent of damage is extensive, possibly to the point where the refractory wall has collapsed, necessitating the reconstruction of a full-sized refractory wall. The images below show an example of repair type three being performed.
